New brick porch steps with limestone treads and black iron handrail on a Cincinnati brick home

Porch Repair and Step Repair in Cincinnati

We find out why your steps moved, then rebuild them to stay put through Cincinnati winters.

Fix the base, then the step

Front steps go bad slowly. A tread sinks half an inch or a cap starts to rock, and one day somebody trips.

It nearly always starts with water and freeze-thaw. We fix the water and base first, then set the brick or stone back level.

What we fix

Close-up of bullnose limestone step treads over red brick risers with an iron handrail base

Settled steps

Lifted and reset, or rebuilt on a compacted base and a proper footing.

Loose caps and limestone treads

We lift them, clean off the broken mortar bed and reset them level, pitched to shed water.

Concrete steps

Patched, overlaid to even the risers, or torn out and repoured with reinforcement.

Brick porches and steps

Spalled units swapped for matched or reclaimed brick, repointed in a mortar softer than the old brick.

Porch piers

Leaning piers shored and rebuilt on a footing below the frost line.

Railing posts

Cut back to clean steel, reset in non-shrink grout and crowned so rain runs off.

Every step the same height

Your foot expects every step to match. On rebuilt stairs, Ohio's residential code allows only 3/8 inch between the tallest and shortest riser, so that's our tolerance.

Rotted framing above the masonry? We run the whole porch as your general contractor, permits included.

Porch and step repair questions

Can you fix one settled step without replacing them all?

Often, yes. If the rest of the flight is sound, Swiss Masonry resets just that step. On a washed-out base, resetting one step only moves the problem.

Should I overlay my concrete steps or rebuild them?

Overlay concrete steps that are solid underneath but worn or slightly out of level. Steps that pulled away from the house or cracked through need a full rebuild.

How much does porch repair cost in Cincinnati?

There's no flat price, because the base under the steps decides how big the job is. Swiss Masonry's owner sees each porch and writes a free, line-item estimate.
