Why tuckpointing matters
Mortar is the sacrificial part of a brick wall. It takes the weather so the brick doesn’t have to. Once the joints crumble, water gets behind the brick, freezes, and the damage speeds up. Catching it early, with the right mortar, is the difference between a repair that lasts 20 years and a wall you’re rebuilding in five.
We hand-grind joints to a clean edge, test mortar samples for a color and compressive-strength match, and finish with the original joint profile (concave, V, weathered, grapevine, whatever the building calls for). On pre-1920 homes we stick to lime-based mortars so we’re not trapping moisture behind a Portland cap.
