Cincinnati Bathroom Remodels, Built by a Masonry Shop

A bathroom is the unforgiving room. Water finds every shortcut. Tile that's set on the wrong substrate cracks. A shower pan that's pitched wrong leaks into the floor below. Caulk lines that aren't tooled clean at install will be a maintenance problem in two years. None of it stays hidden. Homeowners notice every detail, and so do we.

Swiss Masonry takes on bathroom remodels alongside our masonry work. We build at the high end, and a bathroom, especially a primary bath, is where that shows. Stone vanity tops, large-format tile run plumb to a hairline reveal, integrated lighting, curbless showers with a built-in bench, freestanding tubs set on a level, reinforced floor. Same crew lead, same standard as our masonry.

Bathroom remodels with us run $25,000 to $60,000 or more depending on scope and finishes. Powder rooms and small secondary baths sit at the lower end. Primary baths with structural changes, premium stone, and custom shower work sit at the higher end and beyond. We'll tell you a real number after walking the room.

Scope of work

A Swiss Masonry bathroom remodel typically includes:

  • Demolition and structural prep. Old fixtures, tile, and drywall come out. Framing is inspected and corrected where past water damage has compromised it. Subfloor is replaced where it needs replacing, not covered over.
  • Waterproofing. A full membrane on shower walls and pans, bonded and inspected before any tile goes on. Nobody sees this layer once the tile is up, so we photograph it for your record.
  • Tile. Large-format wall tile, mosaic accents, stone or porcelain floors. Set on the right substrate with the right thinset, with grout lines that line up across every plane change.
  • Custom shower work. Curbless or low-curb pans, linear drains, built-in benches, lit niches. Glass enclosures are measured and installed by our glass partners once the tile is done.
  • Vanities and stone tops. Custom or premium-brand vanities, with stone or quartz tops templated and installed by the same fabrication partners we use on kitchens.
  • Freestanding tubs. Set on a framed and reinforced floor, with the supply lines and drain roughed in before the finish flooring goes down.
  • Plumbing and electrical. Handled by our licensed Cincinnati partners. Permits pulled, inspections passed.
  • Heated floors and lighting. Radiant floor heat when the scope includes it, recessed and vanity lighting, and an exhaust fan sized to the room.
  • Finish. Paint, trim, hardware, mirror, accessories, punch list.

Why us for a bathroom remodel

Bathrooms are pattern work. Tile on a wall is a grid that has to read straight to the eye, plumb to the level, and consistent across a thousand reveals. Mortar joints are pattern work too. Same eye, same standard.

One crew lead runs every trade on the job: plumbing, electrical, tile, glass, stone. You aren't chasing four subs to fix one problem. The buck stops with us.

Process

  1. Consultation (free, on-site). We walk the existing bathroom, measure, talk through what you want, and flag any structural or moisture issues we find behind the walls.
  2. Design and scope document. Drawings, finish selections, fixture schedule, written estimate. Fixed scope, no drift.
  3. Build. Demo, framing, rough-ins, waterproofing, tile, fixtures, finish. Typical primary bath runs 3-6 weeks on site. Smaller baths are faster.
  4. Walk-through and punch list. We don't close until the list is empty.

Questions

How long does a bathroom remodel take? Typically 3-6 weeks on site, depending on scope. The order runs: demo and any framing or subfloor repair, then the waterproofing membrane and tile (the slow, careful part), then fixtures and vanity, then paint, trim, hardware, and finish work. Powder rooms and smaller secondary baths sit at the shorter end. Primary baths with custom shower work, stone vanities, and structural changes sit at the longer end. Design and ordering happen before site work. The scope document gives you a firm window.

Do you handle design, or just build? Both. We work with a designer if you have one or with our partners if you don't.

What's a typical cost? $25,000 to $60,000+. The lower end is a smaller bath with mid-range tile and standard fixtures, properly installed and waterproofed. The higher end is a primary bath with stone, a custom shower, a freestanding tub, and any structural or layout changes that go with it.

Do you handle permits? Yes. Anything plumbing, electrical, or structural. We pull the permits and coordinate the inspections as part of the scope.

What about waterproofing? My last bathroom leaked. Most leaks come from missed waterproofing or a shower pan pitched wrong. We use a full membrane system on every wet area, inspect it, and document it before tile goes down. Photos of the waterproofing layer are part of the project record we leave with you.

Where we sit on price

A Swiss Masonry bathroom runs $25K–$60K+. That's high-end Cincinnati work. If you're after a $10K refresh, we'll say so and point you to someone who does that work well.
